Lowertown Sounds on Friday announced it is canceling its summer concert series shows due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 12 shows were set to run Thursday nights at Mears Park from June 4 through Aug. 27.

“As much as we wanted to bring the community together again to enjoy and celebrate local music, beverages, and fare in St. Paul’s Mears Park, we really had no choice but to cancel our 12 dates this year and set our sights on 2021 when hopefully the world has found some normalcy,” said Clint Roberts, founder and executive director of Lowertown Sounds. “It’s incredibly disappointing, but in times like these we need to be extra mindful of the health and safety of our patrons, bands, vendors and staff while also keeping the Series sound operationally and financially so it’s a sustainable 12-week event for many years to come.”

“Thursday nights won’t be the same in St. Paul this summer, but keep your lawn chair and dancing shoes ready and we’ll see you soon enough hopefully,” Roberts added. “We are down but not out, our spirit is strong and we look forward to better days, and Lowertown Sounds nights. In the meantime, we hope the community can do what it can to buy local from the amazing bands, makers, artists, breweries, cideries and wine makers that make up Lowertown Sounds and our truly special community.”
