Wednesday, the city of Minneapolis released a report that showed fatal traffic crashes in the city have increased by 30%.

According to the city's Vision Zero report, there were 17 people killed in traffic crashes in Minneapolis in 2020. There were also 122 crashes that resulted in severe injuries.

Excessive speeding was a factor in a majority of the traffic deaths from 2020.

The 17 fatal traffic crashes reported in 2020 is the most reported since 2013, according to the city's report.

While the city saw a rise in traffic deaths, it saw an overall decrease in crashes by 39%.

The city report says reductions in traffic and an increase in reckless driving during the pandemic played a role in traffic crashes seen in the city.
