The Anoka County Sheriff's Office reports that just before 1 a.m., the St. Francis Police Department, Bethel Fire Department and Allina EMS responded to the 24200 block of University Avenue NE after receiving a report of a person lying in the middle of the road.

According to officials, a preliminary investigation revealed a 41-year-old man from Isanti was driving a motorcycle north on University Avenue NE when he collided with a deer in the road. The man was not wearing a helmet, officials said.

The motorcyclist was conscious when authorities arrived at the scene and was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
